El Ben Cabañas Wins First Place at the Mangrove Friendly Landscape Development Challenge 2024

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, El Ben Cabañas was invited to attend the Mangrove Friendly Landscape Development Challenge award ceremony in Belize City to accept the first-place prize for one of the challenge’s biggest categories.

The Mangrove Friendly Landscape Development Challenge is a national competition to promote and recognize innovative development designs that enhance and preserve mangroves on private properties.

Our manager, Saira Mahabir attended and shared the following:

“Esteemed representatives of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Belize Forest Department, the Belize Ministry of Blue Economy, the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI), the National Climate Change Office, the Blue Bond and Finance Permanence Unit, the Belize Mangrove Alliance in collaboration with Pew Charitable Trusts, the USF Strong Coast Project funded by the National Science Foundation, the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future, and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to WWF and their partners for honoring our organization as the first-place winner in the “Aesthetics and Creativity” category of the 2024 Mangrove Landscape Development Challenge.

This esteemed accolade reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the protection of mangroves, acknowledging that Belize’s mangrove forests are hotspots for biodiversity and are vital for the health of the larger coral reef ecosystem. We are dedicated to integrating environmental sustainability with innovative design principles.

We take pride in our role in protecting and revitalizing these crucial mangrove ecosystems through thoughtful and imaginative landscape development.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the World Wildlife Fund for this extraordinary opportunity and your continued leadership in the field of environmental conservation.

Once again, thank you!”
